Deception

Deception
Trolls are getting pretty good at blending into the crowd, aren't they?

I had started this illustration a while back and decided to finish coloring it to use as my Facebook "Timeline" image, haha. When I began drawing it out, I was just creating random people. But halfway through, I started included people I actually know. Hope you like it!

Domestic Etch Illustration

Domestic Etch Illustration
My friend Elizabeth Goodspeed puts together a biannual art magazine, Domestic Etch. I asked if I could submit an illustration this upcoming go-round, and she FOOLISHLY AGREED, mwuhahahahahahaha.

Anyway, the theme is "Growth and Decay." I kind of got a little carried away in the Silly Department, but I like how it came out. Very fun. You can probably look it it several times and find something new. For instance, my favorite kid. The one pushing the bubble-mower. OR Boba Fett and the sarlacc pit.

Anyways, I'll let you all know when the mag gets published :D

Commission – Catherine

Catherine Commission
My Twitter/Skyrim friend Catherine commissioned me to illustrate her portrait. She wanted something more fun than a standard headshot to use an upcoming article. She is a whiz at all things internetty, such as Twitter and YouTube video links.

J-Day Comic!

J-Day Comic
It's my great friend Jordie Bellaire's birthday today, so I drew her a birthday comic involving her favorite Creepshow segment. <3 Here's my post on Tumblr if you want to help spread the notoriety ;) See Jordie's awesome color skillz.

Le Woof

Le Woof
I was sitting around behind a booth at NOLA ComicCon this past weekend, drawing random things, when I was COMMANDED to draw Chloe's dog, Diego. She commanded me. Kind of. Anyway, here's Diego, being all fancy.

Burt & Emmy's Muppet Adventures

Burt & Emmy's Muppet Adventure
This mini-comic is loosely based on true dream-events, as revealed by the wonderfully entertaining Emmy Cicierega. I couldn't pass up a PRIME #GrintFace joke opportunity.

For those of you left scratching your head: It's fun to use Rupert Grint's face as a punchline.

Gobbledown!

Super CookNight
Just a quick, silly design for the Facebook Event photo for our upcoming *SUPER* CookNight. Our first ever. Usually we just take turns cooking on Tuesday nights. But next Sunday, a few of us will be manning out respective stoves and meeting to feed a lot of people. Hopefully, because I can't eat it ALL by myself.

HOPEFULLY.

Brass Bed - Gramophone Shirt

Brass Bed Gramophone Shirt

My friends in Brass Bed asked me to come up with a shirt design! They wanted to have something for the release party of their second album, Melt White, which is coming up on Sept. 10th. That's going to be a super-fun show. Great music, too. Check 'em out!

I did a few thumbnails of different concepts based on the initial thoughts they gave me. They all lit on this direction, which was a horse pulling a giant gramophone; here's the final product. It was a really fun project to accept, and as an added bonus, I stocked up on a few ideas for future illustrations. Woooo!

Doodie Patrol

I helped brand a pretend-militia club thingie! Sarah and her friends call lame guys "Doodies." It's an adorable take on a major problem in society. You know the type: Guys that walk around in overly graphic tees and popped collars and say "Bruh!" a lot. That are a bit too forward with the womenfolk. That love Jagerbombs. That basically exist to annoy non-doodies. They're typically "swole out" and "ready to hit it." You know.

But you may NOT know that there are other types of Doodies than just the Bruhs. Sleazy Rockers and Jackleg Yuppies also qualify. Amongst others. Just always be on the lookout for toolbags, amirite? Not really that hard to spot. Just look around!

So, to unite unDoodies under a common banner, I created this silly logo. I hope it helps Sarah, her friends and all women out there who are looking for strength in numbers! Clean up the streets!

Fight the good fight, Doodie Patrol.

PS - The female Doodie is known as a "Doodette."

Glitterbots

Glitterbot

My friend Sarah is obsessed with glitter. While it hasn't reached "intervention" levels yet, it's noteworthy enough to have necessitated an illustration. So this past Wednesday at Sketchgroup, I created her a robot butler, or robutler, that would scamper about collecting discarded glitter piles. Please note the "I'm excited!" girly hand position.

I will report back once a name has been issued upon this Glitterbot model. Stay tuned!

Affaire De Coeur

My friend Meghann has a passion for fashion design. She just graduated; her senior project was to design a line of clothing for a fashion show that was held on campus. The line wascalled "Affaire De Coeur." She came away with some major accolades, including Best of Show, and some pretty sweet photos (Good job, again!). She has big aspirations, so I volunteered to do an illustration of one of her dresses for her portfolio.

The illustration above was based on one of the photos of the model wearing the dress during the fashion show. Done in watercolor and ink. I was aiming for a Tim Burton-ish style, which is one of Meghann's favorite directors/artists.

Meg, let me know if I got any of that info wrong, lulz.

Zach & Zach

Last week (or so), my friend Zach (Broussard) posted a note on Facebook about how he needed an artist to whip up some art for a new podcast and comedy tour featuring himself and his friend Zach (Sims). I responded that I'd like to help. But, knowing me, it turned into a full-blown illustration, including hand-drawn type and all. Haha, the things I get myself into!

I also resized/reworked this image to fit the square iTunes album artwork size. And did a borderless version and a grayscale version to cover all printing bases.

From what I gather, it'll be a fun, "character-driven" podcast with our two Zachs and featuring special guests. Maybe they'll tour the USA, saving Community Centers as they go. It's comedy, folks.

LAUGH.

Pony Up

The other day I was talking with my friend Lauh-ren
about how she was going to quit her current job in an epic way. We were trying to find the mostepic route she should take. This ended up involving her riding a pony into the place, dressed as a pony, wielding a megaphone.

Then I said "Now, that'd make a funny illustration." And then it was agreed we'd both draw our own versions. So, here's mine!

A pony-costumed person riding a pony, drinking a pony-size beer and listening to the Deftone's White Pony album.

Drawn at sketchgroup with a black Copic marker and White-Out.

Waterwash

Sorry for the long break! My dad has been in the hospital for a while, plus things have been really busy around here. I have been drawing, but haven't had much time to actually color, finish or post illustrations. Fortunately, my dad is starting to feel better. Thanks to everyone that kept checking on his status.

This is an illustration I did for my friend Lauh-ren, up in Utah. I have been liking her art for a while now, and requested to be FRINZ on Facebook. And we just traded zine/sketchbooks through snail mail. Fun!

So I drew this random picture and wrote a random exposé to go on the back of the artwork. I was quite entertained by it. I believe she was, as well! Here's the accompanying note:

The illustration was done in pen and colored with Prismacolor pencils. Classic Burt Snail Mail.

Dirty Jokes

Last week, my friend Zach asked me if I would like to design a poster/flyer for an upcoming comedy show featuring himself and another one of my friends, Tim. I said yes, of course, and was then elated to hear the name of the show:

"Dirty Jokes with Tim Landry and Zach Broussard"

Within two minutes I had the concept and rough illustration in my head. I'll let you play with the image/wordplay. I decided that I wanted to make this a one-color screenprint, so I went ahead and ordered some screenprinting supplies. Finally taking that plunge.

So what you see above is basically a comp of what the final printed poster will look like. The ink will be black-brown on top of a gray-tan-green paper stock (I'm doing everything possible to give it a "dirty" feel). The posters will be about 10x19 inches. They actually won't have the distressed edges; that's just for the web promotion.

Quite a fun project, wouldn't you say? If you'll be around Lafayette on December 26, come check out the show. They are funny dudes!

Rhino Noir

I'm sure you want an explanation, right? BRB, I need to heat up some pasta.

OK, well my friend Meg recently went up to Portland for vacation. While there, she went on a wine tour and visited the Portland Zoo. After hearing about these two happenings, I asked if they took place simultaneously. To which she replied "That'd make a great cartoon!" The scene that I thumbnailed of was her stumbling drunkenly into a rhino pen and demanding more wine.

And I haven't drawn a full-page comic since that STAR WARLY one I posted a while back. I actually drew that years ago in college. Probably five or six years ago! So it was time for another. And since this seemed like a good opportunity for puns, I went ahead with it.

So this was the result. Hope you get some laughs out of it. This took like twelve hours to do! (I'm a r00kie @ comic art, still.)

Bigheads are Better Than None, Con-clusion

Sorry for the absence in posting, guys. I've been away on vaycay! Yes, that's right. I went to the San Diego Comic-Con, 2009. Or, SDCC09, if you are in-the-know and stuff.

But I am back! And I just finished posting all photographs of the craziness on my Facebook page. That was quite a task. The trip itself was the most exhausting "vacation" ever! But well worth it. You don't get to see Spock in person everyday, do you?

Anyway, here's how Bighead turned out:

Quite the spectacle, he is! Since I was in San Diego during the actual costume party that Bighead was built for, I arranged for him to attend in my stead. It was reported that he behaved himself, which is a pleasant surprise!

Those are pipe cleaner "hairs." For the pupils, I actually cut open Googly Eyes and taped the black plastic pupil disks to the eye whites. They are movable, so I can make him look in different directions if I wanted!

Thanks again to Meg for helping bring this cranky cartoon character to fruition!

Bigheads are Better Than None, Pt. 2

Continuing the creation of an animated legend, I bought some spray gesso and went to town on Ed Bighead.

Here's some gesso action for you:

Now, at this point Ed was being extra grumpy, so I made him some spaghetti and meatballs:

You can tell that he wasn't pleased. I had even diced up onions and bellpeppers to put in the meat. With my own special mix of spices. AND sauteed mushrooms!

Well, determined to take Ed's crankiness down a notch, I whipped out some carrot soufflé!

Sheesh! What does it take to appease this guy? Well, I obviously wasn't doing the trick with my cooking, despite my best efforts. Then I realized that he probably just wanted to be painted.

So, I began the painting! Phase 1: Green In The Face

Phase 2: Sinking Ships

At the moment he's drying. But I need to apply the pipe cleaners and purchase some more google-eyes! Updates to come.
