The Death of Ivan Ilyichstration

For anyone wondering "Where is Burt's weekly Illustration Friday post?", it is over at my other site, Booksketch.

Which, if you haven't been there yet, is a site where anyone is welcome to post their own illustrations based off of literature they have read. So, if you have a favorite book and picture your favorite character a certain way, you can illustrate and post and write your own thoughts.

Anyway, let me know what you think!

The Underground Man - Booksketch

Here's a thumbnail of my latest booksketch, inspired by Mick Jackson's The Underground Man. If you aren't familiar with my Booksketch site, please check it out. It is a site that is open for anyone to join and submit illustrations based on literature he or she has read.

I don't get to post there as often as I do on Draw, Burt Draw!, so it is nice to have friends and supporters contributing. I appreciate all the comments and fans that have been checking out my illustrations. Thanks, everyone. You are all great! :D

The Apple Tree

At the request of my roomate-sister Ashley, pictured above, and because my friend Allison loved the illustration so much, I went ahead and turned my An Apple A Sketch booksketch into a shirt design.

I just uploaded it to Threadless, as well. So I'll keep you all posted on how that goes. And I'll need all the votes I can get to help it win!

Illustration Friday - Intricate

After reading the first page of Mick Jackson's The Underground Man, I was inspired to draw this. It began with the main character, an eccentric old man, wondering what intricate process was involved in an apple tree producing apples. What sort mechanical process allowed the tree to suck ingredients from the ground and churn out such a lovely treat? So, not having gone further than the first page, I knew what I would draw for my next Booksketch!

So, once I saw that this weeks' topic was "Intricate," I figured it'd be a perfect illustration both of my blogs. I hope it inspires you to think mechanically about more things, haha. Mechanical horses, anyone? Scary.

Anyway, feel free to check out my other blog, which I linked to above. It's a site where anyone can post drawings that are directly inspired by literature. It's an open book!
